What Will it Cost?

Hampshire Family Mediation is the only not-for-profit service in Hampshire that has a contract with the Legal Services Commission to provide mediation.

Initial interviews are free if you or your former partner qualifies for publicly funded mediation.  Otherwise the fee for the initial meeting is £40.

If you qualify for public funding ("Legal Aid") your entire mediation will be free.

Mediators carry out an assessment at your initial interview and will be able to tell you whether you qualify to receive publicly funded mediation (Legal Aid).  If you do qualify mediation is entirely free.  You may also be entitled you to some free legal advice. Ask your solicitor about this.

Details about qualifying for free mediation details are contained in the Community Legal Advice website:

Those who do not qualify pay according to gross income.   Charges per person, per meeting will be:

The planning meetings last for an hour and mediation meetings an hour-and-a-half.

In ‘All issues’ and ‘Finance and Property’ mediation a final detailed Memorandum of Understanding and Financial Statement is prepared.   This costs £50 per person.  In Child cases a simpler, formal record of any agreement reached is charged at £25 per person.  No charge is payable by those who qualify for publicly funded mediation.

Our charges cover mediator’s time during the sessions plus associated work outside the meetings, provision of summaries of the outcome of meetings, all administration costs including phone calls, letters and communication with solicitors.

Preparation of Consent Order: at the conclusion of mediation a solicitor is able to prepare a document based on your memorandum of understanding to obtain a Consent Order from the Court that converts your voluntary agreement into a legally binding order.  The charge for this is in the region of £100-£500 depending on your solicitor’s charges and the time spent preparing the Order.

 * Capped fee refers to Planning/Mediation meetings only
