Mediation Services

Mediation may not be suitable in every case. Suitability can depend on safety, safeguarding, domestic abuse concerns, power imbalance, willingness to participate and other circumstances.

MIAM Information

A MIAM is a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting. It helps a person understand mediation and whether it may be suitable. In many family court matters, a MIAM may be required before applying to court unless an exemption applies.

Attending a MIAM does not guarantee that mediation will continue. The mediator will consider suitability and explain possible next steps.

No Guarantee of Outcome

Mediation can support communication and help people explore proposals, but it does not guarantee that agreement will be reached.

Any proposals made during mediation are usually not legally binding unless they are later turned into a legally binding document through the correct legal process.
